Tobyn Bell is a psychotherapist and registered nurse who specializes in Compassion-Focused Therapy and Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy. He is part of the training executive for the Compassionate Mind Foundation and gives training both nationally and internationally on the subject of compassion. He is co-authoring the forthcoming book: Compassion Focused Therapy from the Inside Out (a self-practice/self-reflection workbook for therapists.). Tobyn is a trainer, supervisor and programme-lead at the Greater Manchester CBT Training Centre (NHS), associated with Manchester University. He has published research on mental imagery and compassion, and is a trained mindfulness teacher.

The presentation will explore self-criticism using the principles and practices of compassion-focused therapy. The presentation will include examples of compassion-focused exercises, case-examples and an overall focus on how compassion, mindfulness and compassion-focused therapy can be used together to work with shame and self-criticism.

This presentation will introduce the nature of compassion and the benefit of cultivating compassion for self and others. The presentation will also discuss the way in which compassion can be trained using the ideas and practices of compassion-focused therapy.
