USING MINDFULNESS TO REDUCE STRESS


Dr Mike Scanlan and Megan Halewood from Manchester's largest mental health charity Self Help Services, joined us on Saturday 3rd February in Manchester. They looked at how you can incorporate Mindfulness into your everyday routine both at work and home to prevent stress from manifesting into broader more serious issues. 

Dr Mike Scanlan works as a Mental Health and Wellbeing Consultant and was responsible for setting up and designing the clinical model for the successful and award winning ‘Changing Minds’ Improving Access to Psychological Therapy (IAPT) service. Mike is trained to use Mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Response prevention (EMDR) and Compassionate Focused Therapy approaches. He led a project supported by the Department of Health to illustrate how telehealth principles can be utilised to deliver IAPT group therapy via webinar to people with mental health problems with co morbid long-term conditions. 

Megan is the Health & Wellness Lead for Mindfulness for Professionals. Whilst working for The Webinar Vet, she completed her 200-hour Adult Yoga Teacher training and Children’s Yoga Training through Yoga Alliance and took a great interest in The Webinar Vet’s Mindfulness Series with Dr Mike Scanlan.  In 2017 Megan hosted Mindfulness for Professional's second Mindfulness Series with Mike and set up a Meditation Membership for the vets which she co-hosted with Dr Mike Scanlan one Sunday a month.
