If you’ve heard Vishvapani speaking on Radio 4’s Thought for the Day from a Buddhist perspective, you’ll know that he believes in the power of mindfulness and related approaches to change society. Whatever the circumstances, it helps to access calm and a wider perspective. But how can mindfulness become embedded in society - not just restricted to courses - and accessible to people with little money?
Vishvapani teaches mindfulness in prisons and with men on probation as well as engaging with senior policy makers. He also works with social workers, teachers and probation officers who want to bring mindfulness into their work. These experiences have led him to develop the ‘Sharing Mindfulness Programme’: a simple training that gives people the skill and confidence they need to lead short meditations.
Vishvapani is working with Breathworks to develop a version for workplaces, with probation and social services in Wales on a practitioners' version, and with community groups to develop a grassroots version.
In this talk he’ll share his vision for sharing mindfulness across society.
